Why Cootamundra?

It was with great excitement last year that the team at Bogo had the opportunity to move to our new specifically acquired property Springfield at Cootamundra. The relocation was a massive undertaking and soaked up many months ensuring the smooth transition of people, sheep and equipment. Once in situ we commenced a total redevelopment of the sheep handling infrastructure. Thanks to the team at Flinn Design Wagga we now have state of the art facilities ideal for our stud sheep enterprise.

Many people have asked ‘Why did you move the stud to Cootamundra’? The short answer is it just made sense. However, to provide insight into our thought process it was the following things:

1.     An opportunity for expansion without the constraints of our commercial operations competing for resources.

2.     To be more central to our client footprint. As stud sales have grown our client’s geographical spread has expanded.

3.     Warmer winters, stronger soils and a longer growing season. This will enable the sheep to better express their full genetic potential and enable us to lamb earlier being better for data collection purposes and presentation at events.

4.     Ultimate Biosecurity. There are to be no other livestock enterprises run on Springfield, only stud sheep. Other than the odd stud ram no outside sheep will ever enter the property.

All the team at Bogo feel privileged to be the new custodians of Springfield. The property has been so meticulously cared for by the Hick’s family for many generations. We wish Maurice and Nancy all the best in their retirement.

We as a team are also thankful for the support and backing of the owners and board as we endeavour to progress the stud to the next level. The acquisition of Springfield is the first step in reaffirming our commitment to the merino seedstock industry. We couldn’t think of a more perfect property to house and progress the Bogo stud sheep flock. The future of our business is very bright.
