Bogo Merinos Purchase Glenfinnan White Suffolk Stud

We are excited to announce our recent purchase of Glenfinnan White Suffolk Stud from the Hayes family of Bullaworrie, Young. We strongly acknowledge the years of hard work and dedication John and Anna have put into the stud with help from their daughters Lucy and Alice. We feel honoured to have been entrusted with its stewardship going forward.

Glenfinnan is a foundational sheep stud as Anna's father Jock Litchfield was instrumental in the development of the White Suffolk breed in conjunction with the University of NSW commencing in 1978. We are committed to carrying on its legacy and enhancing what is a very strong genetic foundation.

Some people are asking why Bogo Merinos would buy a prime lamb seedstock business. In a nutshell sheep genetics is what we do! We see this move as a perfect opportunity to enhance our offering to clients and assist with their enterprise profitability. Many of our merino clients join a portion of their ewes to a terminal sire so we would like to help ensure they are maximizing every step in their sheep production systems. We will apply the same technology and know-how used currently to ensure we produce the most profitable sheep, balanced across all relevant commercial traits. 

We are excited to be lambing the ewes currently at Springfield Cootamundra and the boys are enjoying getting out early to collect birth weight figures on the new lambs each day! These 2024 progeny will make up the cohort for our first on-property ram sale to be held in 2025. The Hayes family will be holding their last ram sale at Bullaworrie on Friday the 13th of September and the team from Bogo will be there in support and to meet everyone.
