Ewe Comp Round-Up

The versatility of the genetics provided by Bogo Merinos is evident in the results of ewe competitions conducted throughout the state over the past six months. In November 2023 the Bookham Ag Bureau ewe competition was won by Davo and Sarah Weir, Burrinjuck Pastoral Co. The judges Jason Southwell and Jim Meckif were most impressed with the depth of body, structure, wool quality and quantity of the Weirs’ ewes.

Sam and Row Weir, Illdemere, Bookham won the award for the best team of ewes which were selected as the top 10% of the flock by the entrants. The Weirs’ have been clients of Bogo Merinos for almost 30 years and we congratulate them on their achievement.

For the third year in a row Campbell and Jo Basnett of Nerragundah, Gunning were successful winners of the Gunning Flock Ewe competition. The Nerragundah flock has also been on Bogo bloodlines for many years with Campbells father Andy selecting his first sires from Bogo Merinos some 25 years ago. Congratulations to the Basnett family on a tremendous achievement.

Mark, Jude and Charlie Bryant achieved 2nd place in the Mid Lachlan ewe comp in January. Judge Tom Kirk commented on the ewes “they have plenty of length, stretch and wool. They are tremendous in their nourishment which is what I consider to be pretty right”. “No doubt they are the best wools we have seen today” was the comment from fellow judge Ric Power. The Bryant family also won the long wool section.

Congratulations to the Bryants who have been clients for over 10 years.
